Power Systems Engineer
In this role, you will tackle a broad range of highly technical power system engineering projects related to the planning, operation and regulation of power systems with high penetrations of inverter-based resources (IBR) such as solar and wind generation and energy storage. Projects include developing IBR models, performing power system studies with industry standard software packages such as PowerFactory and PSCAD, as well as developing bespoke models in Python, carrying out energy market analyses and providing technical advice to clients.
Location
Hybrid or fully remote with some national and regional travel expected. Melbourne or Perth based candidates are preferred.
What you will be doing
- Perform power system studies such as power flow, short circuit, harmonics, stability and electromagnetic transients (EMT) studies for a broad range of applications including grid connection, congestion analyses, event investigations, network planning and operational planning studies for future grid scenarios.
- Develop power system models for IBR and conduct model quality checks, including validation with test or historical event measurements
- Develop bespoke models such as system frequency response models, energy market and economic dispatch / unit commitment models
- Improve upon existing or develop new tools, processes and methods for analysing and understanding power systems undergoing transformation from thermal synchronous systems to IBR dominated systems
- Provide expert technical, strategic and policy support to system operators, transmission network service providers, generation developers and owners and policy makers throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific region
- Prepare documentation (reports and presentations) to meet project requirements and deliver presentations to clients, as well as to the industry more broadly
